A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Morgan Bowen; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Morgan Bowen has been selected as a 2012 Top Youth Volunteer in Georgia in the 17th annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards; and
WHEREAS, the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards were created in 1995 by Prudential Financial, in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, and are designed to emphasize the importance this nation places on service to others and to encourage all young Americans to contribute to their communities; and
WHEREAS, a home-schooled high school senior, Morgan is a member of the Sumter County 4-H program; and
WHEREAS, she launched "Operation Desert Support" in 2008, a program that sends homemade stockings filled with care items to American troops, and has helped distribute stockings to nearly 900 troops, recruited and organized 400 volunteers, and secured donations through a letter campaign, media stories, and drop-off boxes in the community; and
WHEREAS, the benevolent and honorable deeds of this charitable young woman serve as a shining example of contributing to the community, and the State of Georgia is honored and blessed to have Morgan Bowen as a citizen.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Morgan Bowen on her volunteer efforts and contributions and congratulate her for being selected as a 2012 Top Youth Volunteer in Georgia.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Morgan Bowen.
